White Crowned Snake

Cacophis harriettae

The White Crowned Snake is commonly found in suburban Brisbane as well as rainforest and eucalypt forests. It likes damp areas underneath compost, stones and logs.

Crowned Snakes grow up to fifty centimetres in length and possess a dark grey body and a white crown on their head.

Their diet consists mainly of small skinks.

White Crowned Snakes are venomous but not considered dangerous. When provoked, they rear their head and enact a mock strike. This has been deadly for some snakes when urban gardeners are startled.
