Tailed Emperor Butterfly

Polyura sempronius

Tailed Emperor Butterflies inhabit forests, woodland and can be found in urban areas.

The open wings are cream and brown, with the underside containing patterned flourishes of orange, ochre, cream, black and brown.

These butterflies feed only on fermenting plant juices and have a particular liking for the damaged pods from the Golden Rain Tree.

Tailed emperors are quick fliers and settle in tree tops but are susceptible to being run over due to their attraction to spilt beverages on roads and foot paths.
