Moreton Bay Fig
Normally found in rainforests, Moreton Bay Figs have made their way into urban areas, particularly in parks.
Moreton Bay Figs are strangler figs which require a host tree. They begin their life as epiphytic – growing on the truck or branch of the host tree – and then over time envelope the host.
This fig can be as wide as it is tall – up to thirty-five metres with a buttressed trunk and large green and rust coloured oval shaped leaves. Characteristic of figs are a large number of vine like roots from the trunk into the ground.
