Longfin Eel
Anguilla reinhardtii
The Longfin Eel inhabits drains, swamps, creeks, rivers and dams.
This species of eel can grow up to two and a half metres and possess an all-over dark brown colour with darker spots and long tail.
Eels are carnivores and feast on fish, insects, prawns, frogs and small water birds.
Mature eels make their way from fresh water to open seas to spawn, and then young return to freshwater. Scientists believe they breed in the South Coral Sea.
