Green Tree Snake

Dendrelaphis punctulata

Green Tree Snakes are climbing snakes and are very common in suburban Brisbane and on the edges of rainforest, heathland, pasture and water courses.

They can grow up to two metres in length and possess a whip-like tail. Colours vary from olive, to green or black and very rarely blue. Their throats and bellies are yellow.

Green Tree Snakes are not poisonous but are deadly to their prey of frogs and skinks.

The muted tones of this snake contrast with the bright blue that appears between the scales when the snake is under threat. They are active during the day and at night rest in tree hollows and crevices.
