Elkhorn Fern

Platycerium bifurcatum

Elkhorn Ferns are found in rainforest areas but are now wide spread and can be found in most urban areas.

Elkhorn ferns are epiphytic which means they grow on the trunks and branches of trees, rather than in soil. The plant reproduces with spores on the undersurface of the fronds. The spore producing areas are coloured brown and have the texture of velvet cloth.

Elkhorn Ferns have wide horn-shaped leaves that catch falling debris from the trees they are attached to. Spore producing leaves are brown.
