Eeltailed Catfish
Tandanus tandanus
Eeltailed catfish can be found in freshwater creeks, rivers, and dams.
They can grow up to one metre in length with a distinctive eel-like tail. They possess smooth brown skin mottled with grey or black patches, rather than scales.
This species of catfish feeds on invertebrates and small fish.
The Eeltailed catfish creates a nest of up to one-hundred centimetres when breeding and defends it aggressively. They possess venomous dorsal and pectoral spines and young fish have more potent venom.
